NSW Government guidance says a pool fence must be at least 1.2 m high from finished ground level. If a boundary fence is part of the pool barrier, that barrier must be 1.8 m high. The standard that applies can also depend on when the pool was built and whether the barrier has been modified.

The published NSW figure is no bigger than 10 cm from finished ground level. Gaps between vertical bars are also limited to 10 cm.
